Nalabana Island

The Nalabana Island in Chilka, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Orissa, and is a must visit when in the area. The island, which is 8km in circumference, is most famous for the Nalabana Bird Sanctuary, which is a paradise for bird lovers, watchers and photographers. The sanctuary specializes in preserving various migratory birds, which flow in during winters from places as far as Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Siberia and the Himalayas.

There are plenty of rare bird species that have made Nalabana Island their home, such as Asian Dowitcher, Golden Plover and Ardea Goliath, to name a few. The island is a paradise not only for bird lovers, but for anybody who appreciates nature and beauty. It enjoys an amazing picturesque view, and is great for a relaxed vacation, away from the hustle-bustle of cities. The island, situated within the Lagoon on Chilka Lake, is also popular for fishing and angling.
